Jasson John has a PhD in Forest Environmental Sciences, a master degree in Wildlife Terrestrial Ecology and a first degree in Wildlife Management. He has attended several short courses, teacher’s workshops, and trainer of trainers’ workshop, on project planning and management and conservation in different countries e.g. South Africa, Kenya, Korea, USA.  He lectures with the University of Dar es Salaam in the Department of Zoology and Wildlife Conservation in biodiversity and wildlife science to both undergraduate and postgraduate students, and he also does research and supervise postgraduate students in wildlife sciences. He has reviewed books and published papers in scientific journals and conference proceedings especially on ornithology. He is a lead author of a BOOK titled ‘Birds of Western Tanzania: Gombe, Mahale, Rubondo, Saanane, Malagarasi, Ntakata and Minziro’ published in 2019. He has been involved in preparation of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbird Agreement (AEWA) International Single Species Action Plans, and advising the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism in Tanzania on matters related to biodiversity conservation, especially birds. He has also written tour guiding training manuals and offers training sessions to nature guides. Jasson John has taught field courses at the Tropical Biology Association and University of Rwanda. He worked with Wildlife Conservation Society of Tanzania as a Bird Conservation Officer from 2004 to 2007. Jasson John is a founder and a board member of Nature Tanzania, a national conservation NGO. In October 2016 at its 14th Pan-African Ornithological Congress (PAOC) held in Dakar (Senegal) nominated Jasson John to serve in the PAOC Committee until 2023. He found and coordinates several environmental clubs such as Roots and Shoots – UDSM Chapter (since 2017) and UDSM Birdwatching Group (Since 2013). Jasson has recently developed interest in avian pollination ecology, urban ecology, birds and wind farms, habitat edge effects on birds, invasive species and wildlife trade.
