Hawa is an Assistant Lecturer at the Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (MBB). She is pursuing a Ph.D. in Microbiology at the University of Dar es Salaam. She has a Master's in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology from Pan African University Institute for Basic Sciences, technology and Innovation (PAUSTI) and a BSc. Molecular Biology and Biotechnology from the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM)

She has a background in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, and Biotechnology with a focus on Applied Biotechnology in industrial, food, agriculture, health, and environment. Her current research is on the Investigation of the biodiversity of fungi from selected mangrove ecosystems and eventually exploit their potential bioactive compounds for bio-industrial applications.

She has a great interest in modern scientific research and environmental conservation. Her Ph.D. research is driven by the fact that unique and unexplored niches signify exciting great diversity and hidden potentials yet to be explored.

In her free time, she likes sharing knowledge, exchanging, and exploring inquisitive ideas. She believes that knowledge that is worth having is the one that is shared. When not in the lab, she enjoys watching documentaries, solving puzzles, and traveling.
