Dr. Sangu M. George works as a Lecturer in the Department of Botany, College of Natural and Applied Sciences of the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. George Sangu has over 16 years of professional experience working in high learning as academic staff teaching courses ranging from Ecology and conservation, environmental restoration, soil science and research/scientific methods for undergraduates’ students and biological methods for postgraduate students. Currently Sangu George is departmental post graduate coordinator, project coordinator for undergraduate programs and Manager for CONAS Consultancy Bureau. Sangu George has also supervised successfully research projects to 10 BSc, 1 MSc. and 1 PhD students.

Dr. Sangu has worked extensively as environmental consultant, with over 18 years of professional experience as environmental and social safeguard expert George has been involved environmental assessment in the area of biodiversity and environmental assessment in different field covering energy sector, tourism, transportation, manufacturing, and mining sector. Sangu has worked extensively in local and international projects including protected areas ranging from National Parks, Game reserves and Wildlife Management Areas Also Sangu has conducted assessment in mining areas, road, railways, and airport. George professional experience includes undertaking resource assessment for establishment of IKONA WMA, upgrading the Saa Nane Game Reserve to National Park status, biodiversity assessment of the Uluguru Mountain and resource assessment in Coastal forests of Kilwa and Mtwara.

George has been involved in environmental and social monitoring of implementation of ESMP for construction work in power transmission projects, resettlement implementation and livelihood restoration monitoring for Songosongo gas pipeline from Songosongo Island to Tegeta Salasala, preparation of RAP for Rusumo fall project and monitoring of implementation of ESMP for construction of accommodation facilities in protected areas. Also, George has been involved in preparation of implementation closure report for TSCP project working as environmental and social safeguard for World Bank funded project where monitoring of resettlement implemented in various subprojects implemented under TSCP as well as follow up on monitoring of implementation of ESMP for TSCP subproject were carried out. Also, George Sangu lead a team in preparation of Midterm review for DMDP project where review of RAP implementation and ESMP implementation was conducted. Also George Sangu has worked as Environmental and social safeguard expert for monitoring implementation of ESMP for construction of 400 KV Kenya Tanzania Power Interconnection Project. George has worked with various international firms in project related to power construction, railway network development and a number of strategic assessments in energy sector, transport sector and regional development sector.
