Elikana has extensive experience in the national and international levels in training, research and consultancy on biodiversity conservation, trans-boundary natural resources conservation and management, tourism management, protected areas planning and management in Africa, ecosystem-based adaptation, and management of wildlife and biodiversity in a changing climate. Currently, Elikana is actively contributing to the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES). In year 2016, he represented Africa in the organizing team for the stakeholder days at the IPBES 4th plenary in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. At the regional level, Elikana has been successfully coordinating different capacity–building programs, including ‘Managing Biodiversity in a Changing Climate in the Albertine Rift countries; Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and DR-Congo’ and ‘Africa Climate Leadership Program (AfriCLP)’. At the national level, Elikana works very closely with different government ministries and agencies, including the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism (Tanzania National Parks-TANAPA; Tanzania Wildlife Management Authority-TAWA, Directorate of Planning). Elikana also works with various non-governmental institutions (e.g. WWF- Tanzania Program Office, Jane Goodall Institute, Mpingo Conservation and Development Initiative, etc.).
