Dr. Blandina Robert Lugendo, a UNESCO-LOREAL for Women in Science Fellow (2004), is the Dean of the School of Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Technology (SoAF) at the University of Dar es Salaam. She holds a BSc in Marine Biology and Applied Microbiology and an MSc in Marine Biology from the University of Dar es Salaam, and a PhD in fish ecology from Radboud University Nijmegen, the Netherlands. Dr. Lugendo's experience include seagrass ecology to fish ecology, estuarine ecology, biodiversity assessment, marine resources and management, and coastal pollution. Dr Lugendo has co-authored various book chapters and articles published in peer-reviewed scientific publications. She is also involved in supervising Undergraduate, Master and PhD students in the field of seagrass ecology, mangrove ecology, fisheries ecology, and mariculture.

Dr Lugendo’s experience has earned her key positions in regional, national and NGO Boards and Committees, including Chairperson of the Advisory Board of Fisheries Education and Training Agency (FETA), Chairperson for Board of Trustees for Tanzania Marine Parks and Reserves Unit (MPRU), Chairperson of the Advisory Board of Sea Sense, and Member of the National and Regional Task Forces for WIOSAP Project (UNEP – Nairobi Convention) on Critical Habitats Component. Dr. Lugendo is currently the WIOMSA Country Coordinator for Mainland Tanzania, a member of the WIO Journal of Marine Sciences Editorial Board, and a member of WIOMSA Scientific Committee, and has recently been elected as Member of the WIOMSA Board of Trustees.
