Dr. Baltazar Safari Awe is a Lecturer in Economics in the Department of Economics and Geography at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Dar es Salaam University College of Education, a constituent college of the University of Dar es Salaam. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Over the past 18 years, he has taught courses including Introductory Macroeconomics, Intermediate Microeconomics, Monetary Economics, Quantitative Methods, Environmental and Natural Resource Economics, and Public Sector Economics.

Dr. Awe's research interests encompass the economic valuation of environmental resources, payments for environmental services, poverty-environment policy analysis, climate change adaptation and mitigation, infrastructure investment, deforestation and sustainability, as well as monetary and fiscal policy analysis. Additionally, he has served as an Economics Editor for manuscripts in a textbook authored by the Tanzania Institute of Education (TIE).

Beyond his academic responsibilities, Dr. Awe is the Manager of the Planning and Development Unit, a role he has held for approximately six years. He has extensive experience in the preparation of plans and budgets, monitoring and evaluation, coordinating the college’s contributions to the Budget Speech and Annual Facts and Figures Reports, overseeing the preparation and implementation of performance contracts, coordinating investment and resource mobilization activities, and managing the preparation and implementation of risk registers and action plans. He also monitors and disseminates findings through quarterly and annual reports, among other responsibilities. Furthermore, Dr. Awe serves as the College's Deputy Project Coordinator for the Higher Education for Economic Transformation (HEET) Project, which is financed by the World Bank.
