Dr. Mmochi is a Senior Lecturer and Head of Marine Technology and Innovation Section (MTI) Section of the Institute of Marine Sciences of the University of Dar es Salaam with PhD in Chemistry. He has a PhD in pesticide sciences, an MSc in marine chemistry and a BSc in chemistry biology and education. He was Assistant Executive Secretary of the African Network for Analysis of Pesticides and other Pollutants (ANCAP) from 2002 – 2011 and is currently the Executive Secretary of the same from 2011 to date. He has 20 years’ experience in research, consultancy and public service in marine chemistry and aquaculture. Dr. Mmochi played a major role in introduction of finfish mariculture which has taken off in all the districts of the Tanzanian Coast. He worked for 8 months with FAO as a Senior National Consultant on Development of Mariculture Sector Project for the Ministry of Agriculture Natural Resources Livestock and Fisheries, Zanzibar and arranged the launching of the Korea Zanzibar Multispecies Mariculture Centre. He initiated a process that led to a NORAD project “Aquatic Health in Eastern and Southern Africa from 2013 - 2018” which introduced veterinary in aquaculture in Eastern and Southern Africa.  His 20 years work in aquaculture lead to his winning the 1st prize of the 5th Research Week Competition of the University of Dar es Salaam research project category. He is currently a PI in projects titled “Innovation and commercialization of farmed seaweeds (Eucheuma denticulatum), shells and pearl products through improvements, packaging, Intellectual Property protection and marketing” and “Blue Growth Initiative through Farming of Silver Pompano (Trachinotus blochii) and Rabbit Fish (Siganus sutor) for Food Security and Improved Livelihood in East Africa (BLUEGRASI)”.
