Dr. David holds a PhD in Biology (plant protection major) from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), a Masters in Biotechnology and a BSc. Molecular Biology and Biotechnology from University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM)

She is an academician at University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, with major roles in teaching, research and consultancy in broader fields of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics. Her research utilises biotechnological tools for sustainable development in agriculture and health.

Dr. David co-founded and is a member of the board of directors of the Tanzania Human Genetics Organisation (THGO), an initiative that aims at expanding human research and application in Tanzania and Africa in general. She has served in diverse ambassadorial roles towards improving science culture and building capacity for youth and women in science and technology including the eLife ambassadorship program and Women in Tech Africa (WiTA). She is a member of the NEF-CoS executive committee and an inaugural NEF ambassador for Tanzania. 

She has received recognition for her works including Malkia wa Nguvu nomination (2018), Tanzanian sheroes (2018) and NEF women in STEM careers award (2022).

In her free time, she mentors young people in science and technology, especially young girls. When not in the lab, she enjoys reading, travelling and sharing knowledge through Wikipedia, blogging and social media platforms. She is an advocate of gender equality, diversity and inclusion in science as well as open science & knowledge.
