Current Summarised CV:

Mr. Amos S Kiyumbi, a MSc. Physics graduate (Dec. 2017) at Ulm University - Germany, is currently doing Ph.D. studies at the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa. Mr. Kiyumbi’s research is mainly in the nanotechnology field and its applications in public health problems. He has expertise in condensed matter physics, nanoscience, nanophononics, and plasmonic metamaterials (experiment and theory). His current research project (Ph.D. project) is based on developing an ultra-sensitive nanoplasmonic biosensor for the in vitro diagnosis of malaria. Nb; The average parasitemia seen in patients attending the hospital for Malaria diagnoses in the tropical regions (Tanzania included) is between 5,000 parasites/uL [0.1% parasitemia] and 50 parasites/uL [0.001% parasitemia]. The current simplified and WHO-accepted malaria test, mRDT reads negative results for patients with less than 100 parasites/uL of blood (0.002% parasitemia). Based on nanophotonic concepts, we strive to develop a label-free SPR malaria detection tool, user friend and reliable that can provide positive results for blood samples with parasitemia less than 0.001% (<50 parasites/uL).
