In a way to demonstrate its continuous commitment to community engagement, the University of Dar es Salaam recently offered a generous donation of office furniture to the local government office of University Street.

The office furniture, which included an executive office table and chairs, to the office of the Street Executive Officer for the University Street, was handed over by Dr. Dotto Paul Kuhenga, Head of the Communication and Marketing Unit (CMU) at the University of Dar es Salaam.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Dr. Kuhenga, whose Unit, among other things, is responsible for outreach, community engagement, and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, emphasized the importance of community involvement in the University’s mission.

"Our commitment is not only to educate and empower our students but also to engage with the community around us. This donation is a symbol of our appreciation for the role that the Mtaa Executive Officer plays in serving both the citizens of the University Street and our students”, said Dr. Kuhenga.

Positive impacts

Receiving the donation, the Mtaa Executive Officer for the University Street, Mr. Mahmoud Juma Badili, expressed his gratitude and highlighted the positive impact the new furniture will have on the office's functionality and appearance.

“This furniture will significantly upgrade and uplift the look and practicality of our office. It is not just about aesthetics; it will improve our ability to serve the community more effectively”, said Mr. Badili.

He further added: "Our office serves the residents of University Street, including students from the University of Dar es Salaam. We provide services such as introduction letters for various government and national registrations services, like company registrations, and job applications, and this donation will help us serve our clients better”.

The University of Dar es Salaam's commitment to community engagement is reflected in its consistent support for local development initiatives. The donation of office furniture is part of a broader effort to ensure that public offices, which support both students and the wider community, are well-equipped and conducive to service delivery.

This latest contribution strengthens the bond between the university and the local community, ensuring that resources are shared to uplift and benefit many people.
