The Institute of Gender Studies and the Institute of Development Studies are implementing a project on Gender and Digitisation across Context. The project is part of a six-year project under the Norwegian Agency for Development Co-operation (NORAD) through the Norwegian Programme for Capacity Development in Higher Education and Research for Development (NORHED II). The project is implemented with two other partner institutions: The University of Agder (Norway) and Makerere University (Uganda). The project aims to improve  the teaching of programmes in Gender Studies, support institutional-civil society engagement,  enhance Gender equality, support capacity-building on Gender-related research activities and empower students to develop and acquire skills and competencies relevant to supporting and enhancing Gender Equality and Development in higher education institutions and communities.

The project seeks to offer partial scholarship to three continuing postgraduate students in MA Gender Studies at the University of Dar es Salaam. The partial scholarship will cover tuition fee and stipend to sustain candidates during the proposal development, fieldwork and dissertation writing stages.

The applicants will be required to conduct research in the following thematic areas: 

  1. Gender, Digitalisation and Graduate Training (specifically on the Impact of Gender and Digitalisation, or, exploring the added value of digitalisation on training and learning at the postgraduate level).
  2. Teaching Gender Across Context Collaboratively
  3. Gender Equality and Inclusion for Community Impact.
  4. Digitalisation and Policy Implications

Eligibility

Eligible applicants must have the following qualifications:

  1. Minimum undergraduate Grade Point Average (GPA) of not less than 3.8 on a 5-point scale.
  2. Aged less than 40 years (male) and less than 45 years (female)
  3. Provide a strong statement of a need 
  4. Previous experience in Gender is an added advantage
  5. Male/and female Students from rural remote areas with prevalent gender inequality issues such as ethic groups, single mothers and marginalised by gender status can apply.
  6. Students with disabilities (special needs) are also strongly encouraged to apply.

Information

Selected candidates will have an opportunity to be co-supervised by faculty from Makerere University and the University of Dar es Salaam.

  • Certified copies of their undergraduate academic certificates, valid student ID and NIDA ID
  • First semester MA results 
  • Letter of motivation,
  • Admission letter
  • Curriculum Vitae.

Deadline for application is 15th July, 2022 at 17:00 HRS EAT.
