On the Monday morning of August 19th,the teachers and students of CI UDSM were invited to attend Farewell Reception for Tanzanian students on 2019 China Government Scholarship  held by the Chinese Embassy in Tanzania.

Dr. Joyce Ndalichako, Minister of Education, Science and Technology and Vocational Training of Tanzania, Ms. Wang Ke, Chinese Ambassador to Tanzania, Mr. Joseph Kahama, Secretary General of the Tanzania-China Friendship Association, and Dr. Lupa Ramadhani Harenga, the Representative of Vice Chancellor of the University of Dar es Salaam attended the reception.

Ms. Wang Ke, Chinese Ambassador to Tanzania, first expressed her warm congratulations to 259 Chinese government scholarship students in 2019. She hopes that after returning to Tanzania, they can apply what they have learned to the development and construction of various fields in Tanzania, and contribute to the mutual understanding and friendship between the Chinese and Tanzanian people.

The Minister of Education, Science and Technology and Vocational Training of Tanzania, Dr. Joyce Ndalichako, first expressed his gratitude to the Chinese government for its support in the fields of education, transportation and medical care in Tanzania. She hopes that the students will study diligently. Each student is a folk ambassador, and will represent the image of Tanzania after coming to China. They should respect different cultures and enhance the cultural exchanges between China and Tanzania. Finally, Dr. Ndalichaco hopes that these students will introduce Tanzanian culture to Chinese people, and attract more Chinese people to Tanzania for tourism and investment when they return.

This year is the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in Tanzania, since the establishment of diplomatic relations, cooperation in the field of education in Tanzania are deepening. With the support of the education departments of the two countries, since 2013, the cooperation between China and Tanzania has established two Confucius Institutes and two Confucius Classrooms. At present, there are nearly 50 large, middle, and primary schools in Tanzania that offer Chinese language teaching courses. At the same time, there are four universities in China that offer Swahili language majors. Each year, dozens of Chinese students come to Tanzania to study.

In 2019, 21 students from CI UDSM received Chinese government scholarships and 8 students received Confucius institute scholarships. What’s more, it is reported that the fourth swahili language training course offered by CI UDSM will start in September.
