The Directorate of Postgraduate Studies was established in 2009 to replace the School of Graduate Studies (SGS) that was established in 2006 with a population of less than 100 students. This has now grown to a population of more than 5,000 students with over 250 programmes offered by different departments. The directorate is committed to overseeing the quality and relevance of the graduate education offered at the University of Dar es Salaam through administering postgraduate examinations, supervision of postgraduate studies, awarding of postgraduate degrees and diplomas. The directorate also ensures the competence of academic staff who participate in supervising and examining of graduate students as well as preparing and enforcing Senate approved rules and regulations pertaining to graduate studies.

I do trust that the quality of teaching and research you will experience at the University of Dar es Salaam is among the best in the world. It is my anticipation that your Postgraduate Studies at the University of Dar es Salaam will be successful and your time at the university will be gratifying and rewarding.
