Turkish students complete a two month English for beginner’s course

Two Turkish students have successfully completed English for beginner’s course. These students, namely, Berkay Turaladag and Ibrahimu Turbingol joined English for beginner’s course in the first week of June 2022 and completed the course in the second week of August 2022.

The course is organized by the Department of Languages and Literature, and it intends to prepare learners to learn basic communicative language skills.

Speaking during a brief awarding ceremony, the Head of Department, Dr. Loveluck Philip said learners were eager to learn English language so that they could use it as a tool for communication in their daily occupational activities.

to this far we are happy that the then monolingual Turkish learners are now bilinguals. They can now communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Our teaching was guided by Natural Hypothesis Theory of second language learning that requires a learner to learn language in its natural environment. This necessitated us to recruit more DUCE students to expand the natural environment where the Turkish learners could learn English language from. Dr. Philip insisted.

The Department of Languages and Literature has vibrant lecturers with experience in teaching at various levels of education. The Department offers other language related courses in English, Kiswahili, French and Chinese. Other courses offered by the Department include intensive English course, ‘Mbinu za Ufundishaji Kiswahili kwa Wageni’ and French for beginners.
