On 24th June 2022, the Dean Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Dr. Edwin Babeiya, awarded certificates to 42 students who graduated from a course on teaching Kiswahili as a foreign language.

The course facilitator, Dr. Magreth Kibiki, said the general objective of the course is to enable student-teachers acquire basic skills and methods of teaching Kiswahili within and outside the country. She also added that the course imparts skills to teach Kiswahili to foreigners destined to work in Tanzania and other countries where Kiswahili is used.

Speaking during the event, Dr. Babeiya remarked that the Department of Languages and Literature organizes such a short course once in each semester. He further said that the skills and methods of teaching Kiswahili would assist graduates looking for opportunities for self-employment.

There is no doubt that Kiswahili is the fastest and most rapidly growing language in Africa and the world. Henceforth, teaching Kiswahili through these short courses likely to attract people from every corner of the world to learn basic language skills.
