DUCE was honored to hold a book writers workshop for Zanzibar, from 17th -19th March, 2023. The workshop team involved writers from DUCE, subject specialists, reviewers and a delegate of administrators from Zanzibar Institute of Education (ZIE).

At the end of 2022, DUCE project team was commissioned by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training under Zanzibar Institute of Education (ZIE) to develop teaching and learning materials for Standard One in Zanzibar.

Speaking during the welcoming note, the project team leader, Dr. Josta Nzilano, said the schedule of writing and the production of draft manuscripts were accomplished by the team from DUCE in Zanzibar. He further said, the current three-day workshop at DUCE aimed at incorporating reviewer’s comments to accomplish the final stage of books writing.

It was noted that the project team was assigned to develop textbooks, teachers’ guides and supplementary curriculum materials for the following subjects: Kiswahili, English, Creative Arts and Sports, Environment, Mathematics and Islamic Religion. Finally, the textbooks will be produced in both normal (alphabetic) and tactile (braille) writing format.

Speaking during the brief meeting, the Acting Deputy Principal (Academic, Research and Consultancy), Prof. Amani Lusekelo presented a brief overview of the College, core activities and staff capacity that is able to provide public services and consultancies. He further requested the team to work strategically and finally produce books of high quality.
