The Chemistry Department project team organized a three day workshop for Postgraduate students and other academicians from various higher learning institutions.

The training took place from 28th to 30th July 2022, and was officiated by the Director of Undergraduate studies, Dr. Hezron Onditi, on behalf of the Deputy Principal (ARC).

The Principal Investigator (PI) of the project, Dr. Silvia Mushi presented detailed planned project activities including budget, achievements, challenges and future plans.

Speaking during the opening session, Dr. Onditi congratulated the project team for integrating postgraduate students in the project. He advised the team to see the possibility of collaborating with other members of research centers and institutes such as National Institute for Medical Research, Government Chemist Laboratory Authority and Institute of Traditional Medicine.

He also advised the Head of Department to place Postgraduate students in these research centers to enable them acquire practical knowledge and skills which are useful in the development of their research. He further requested the team to continue working hard in writing project proposals.

In this workshop, eleven academicians, and nine master’s students were trained on skills of simulating chemical solutions by exploiting methods using quantum mechanics and molecular dynamics simulations.
