UDSM-Sida IGRID Project
CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR PhD SPONSORSHIP FOR COMPUTER AND IT SYSTEMS ENGINEERING
Project Outline
The overall objective of this Sida iGRID sub-programme (Phase II) titled iGRID is intended to develop human technical and scientific capacity to facilitate implementation of automation of monitoring, evaluation, analysis, control and management of electrical power system (smart grid) in order to improve delivery efficiency and to optimize operational costs in the electrical power system in Tanzania. iGRID phase II theme is Smart Grid Capacity Development for Enhancing Electrical Power Network Management in Tanzania. The iGRID research training sub-programme is meant to make a difference in the manner that research students are being trained in Tanzanian institutions to generate a new breed that focuses on societal needs, relevance and in providing innovative solutions that invoke critical thinking by a triangulation of training, research and innovation emphasis in Smart grid realization (i.e. making electrical power network smart and intelligent using ICT). It is a multidisciplinary programme including addressing security issues, communication, IoT applications, monitoring and instrumentation, data and big data processing, interfaces (like machine-to-machine interfaces) and control of the grid and its facilities.
